International SEO Agency

Digital Marketing Tribe is an international SEO agency that gets Australian businesses found in the countries they sell to, and overseas businesses found by the markets they serve. Country targeting, hreflang, site structure, localised content, and the AI answers that now sit above the results in every market. Alwan Marine, a UAE marine surveying firm whose site we built, went from one indexed page to visitors from 45 countries in six months. No lock-in contracts, everything in-house.

Honestly can't recommend Digital Marketing Tribe enough. They are so easy to work with, they understood the identity I wanted with my brand and executed. Since taking on my SEO, Theva has grown so quickly. In just 3 months, about 2 out of every 3 of my leads now come directly from Google, and I constantly get compliments on how good my website looks from other business owners and customers. They've made the whole thing completely stress-free and the results are snowballing every month. Thank you team!

Google is not one search engine. It is a different set of results in every country, shaped by the searcher's location, language and the local competitors, and a site that ranks well in Australia is not automatically visible in New Zealand, the UAE, the UK or the United States. Most international SEO problems come from ignoring that: one site trying to serve every market with no country signals, two country sites that Google quietly folds into one, Australian spelling, currency and phone numbers on pages meant for buyers in Dubai, hosting that is fast in Sydney and slow in London, hreflang tags half implemented, and Bing, Yandex or Naver never considered at all.

Our approach is built around search intent per market rather than one keyword list translated three times. Every query is a Know, Go, Do or Buy moment, and the moment is different in each country: the words, the competitors, the currency, the trust signals a buyer looks for. We start with your own Search Console country data and per-country keyword databases, decide the structure (country domains, subfolders or subdomains), fix hreflang and canonicals so Google indexes each market on its own, then build the localised pages, links and citations that win it. Because we also build websites, the technical work gets done in code rather than written up in a report.

Since 2025 that also means AI search. ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google's AI Overviews retrieve results by region too, and they recommend businesses that are described consistently across every country they operate in: the same entity, the right areas served in structured data, an llms.txt file, and content that answers the questions buyers in each market actually ask. We set those signals up per market and track AI visibility alongside rankings and enquiries, country by country.

Results

International SEO results

Named clients and real Search Console numbers. Multi-country work runs from our Sydney and Adelaide offices.

45

Alwan Marine, UAE and Iraq marine surveying

A new site we designed, built and host. From a single indexed page in May 2026 to 18 pages receiving Google impressions from more than 90 countries, with visitors from 45 of them, by September 2026. Enquiries now arrive from Dubai and Europe through the site.

AU + NZ

Suspension Exercise, TRX retailer

Two WooCommerce stores, Australia and New Zealand, with the same catalogue. Google had folded 39 Australian and 43 New Zealand page pairs into one. We added hreflang and a country differentiation block to both sites and re-requested indexing so each store is assessed for its own market.

Top 10

Alwan Marine, Iraq port pages

Dedicated pages for the ports of Basrah, Umm Qasr and Khor Al Zubair averaged positions 7 to 9 across their Google impressions within six months of launch, in a niche no competitor addresses online.

We also run e-commerce SEO for Australian stores shipping overseas and AI SEO for brands that need to be recommended in more than one country.

What's Included

Everything an international site needs to rank

Six disciplines, delivered by our own team, priced by scope rather than by the hour.

Market and keyword research per country

Search demand, competitors and the intent behind each query in every target country, from your Search Console country data and per-country keyword databases, so you invest in the markets that already search for you.

Site structure: ccTLD, subfolder or subdomain

The decision that everything else depends on. Country domains, language subfolders or regional subdomains, chosen for your budget, your markets and how much authority you can afford to split, and built to be crawled cleanly.

Hreflang, canonicals and duplicate control

Hreflang and canonical tags that agree with each other, x-default rules, sitemaps per market and the content differentiation that stops Google folding two country sites into one, as it did with Suspension Exercise AU and NZ.

Localised content and on-page SEO

Pages written for each market rather than translated once: local spelling, currency, units, phone formats, trust signals and the questions buyers in that country ask, with titles and structure built to the local search intent.

International links, citations and AI visibility

Links and mentions from relevant sites in each target country, consistent entity data across directories and LinkedIn, Organization and Service schema with the areas you serve, and an llms.txt file, so search engines and AI assistants recommend you in the right market.

Technical, hosting and speed for global audiences

Core Web Vitals measured from the target country, not from Sydney. CDN delivery, caching, image handling and hosting choices made per market, with GA4 and Search Console set up so every country reports on its own.

Digital Marketing Tribe team
Why businesses choose us for international SEO

Multi-country work we have actually done, not a page we rank for

  • Real multi-country clients: Suspension Exercise in Australia and New Zealand, Alwan Marine in the UAE and Iraq, and Australian businesses selling into the UK, US and Asia
  • Developers and SEO specialists in one team, so hreflang, redirects, country switching and CDN rules get built in code rather than recommended in a report
  • Reporting split by country from Search Console and GA4, so you see each market on its own instead of one blended number
  • Certified Google Partner agency, in business since 2017, with offices in Sydney, Hunters Hill and Adelaide
  • SEO, Google Ads, AI search and web development under one roof, 100% in-house
  • No lock-in contracts, month-to-month with 30 days' notice
  • Monthly reporting on rankings, Maps visibility, calls, enquiries and AI visibility, in plain English
Our Process

How we do international SEO

Market audit and country data

A crawl of the site the way each country sees it: indexing per market, hreflang and canonical errors, speed from the target country, plus your Search Console country data and per-country keyword research to size each market before anything is built.

Structure and intent mapping

The ccTLD, subfolder or subdomain decision, then every keyword in every market sorted into Know, Go, Do or Buy intent and mapped to the page that should win it, with the AI answer it needs to be cited in. You see the plan before we touch the site.

Technical build

Hreflang, canonicals, x-default, sitemaps per market, geo-targeting in Search Console, CDN and caching rules, currency and address handling, and the redirects and country switching, done in code on staging first.

Localised content, links and citations

Market-specific pages and articles written to local intent, links and mentions earned from relevant sites in each country, and consistent entity data so both Google and the AI assistants recognise you in every market.

Report per market

A monthly report per country: rankings, impressions, traffic, enquiries and AI visibility, with the next month's priorities for each market rather than one global summary.

Problems We Fix

The international SEO problems we see most often

Three situations account for most of the multi-country sites we audit. Fixing them usually moves visibility before any new content does.

One site, many markets, no signals

A .com or .com.au serving every country with Australian spelling, AUD prices and a Sydney phone number. Google treats it as Australian and buyers elsewhere never see it. Fixed with market structure, hreflang, localised pages and per-country geo-targeting.

Two country sites Google merges

An AU and an NZ store, or a UK and a US site, with the same content. Google picks one as canonical and the other disappears, which is what happened to 82 Suspension Exercise page pairs before we fixed it. Fixed with hreflang plus real content differentiation.

Ranking at home, invisible abroad

A business that leads its category in Australia and cannot be found by the overseas buyers it now sells to. Fixed with market-specific pages, links from the target country and AI-readiness work so the brand is recommended there too.

Common Questions

International SEO, answered

How much does international SEO cost?

International SEO runs on our Competitive SEO tier from $2,800 a month plus GST for one additional country, with bespoke quotes for three or more markets or multi-language sites. A one-off SEO site audit with country-level findings starts from $800. Pricing is published on our pricing page.

Country domains, subfolders or subdomains?

Subfolders (yoursite.com/nz/) keep all your authority on one domain and are usually the right call for a business entering new markets. Country domains (.co.nz, .ae) send the strongest local signal but split authority and cost more to maintain. Subdomains sit in between. We recommend after the audit, based on your markets and budget, not a default.

What is hreflang and do I need it?

Hreflang is the tag that tells Google which version of a page is for which country and language. If you have more than one version of the same page for different markets, you need it, and it needs to be reciprocal, complete and consistent with your canonical tags, which is where most implementations fail.

Do you translate content?

We write and optimise English content for every market ourselves. For other languages we work with professional translators and handle the SEO layer: keyword research in the target language, URL structure, hreflang, and the localisation that a straight translation misses.

Where should the site be hosted?

Where your customers are, or on a CDN that puts it there. A site hosted in Sydney can load slowly in Europe or the Gulf; Cloudflare or a similar edge network fixes that without moving the site. We measure Core Web Vitals from the target country and choose accordingly.

How long does international SEO take?

Technical fixes such as hreflang and indexing show in Search Console within weeks. Ranking in a new market takes three to nine months depending on competition and how much authority the site already has. Alwan Marine's new site went from one indexed page to visitors from 45 countries in six months.
