Marketing for Dietitians That Puts Your Credential to Work
Dietitians Australia says anyone can call themselves a nutritionist, regardless of their qualifications. Yet "nutritionist near me" is searched about as often as "dietitian near me". Many people may not know the difference, and that's a gap an Accredited Practising Dietitian can fill honestly.

Bilal & Matt have been instrumental in supporting our organic traffic to our website. Further, facilitating website advancements such as building case studies, blogs and projects as we underwent a national re-brand. I would recommend Digital Marketing Tribe for SEO support & website services. Taylor Penny, Marketing Manager @ Synaco by Synergie.
DMT has had a massive impact to our business. I have to admit I was sceptical because we had been burnt before with other marketing companies. Ivan and the team helped grow customers and followers rapidly over a 3 month period. 3,700 extra FB followers and more than 2,500 chatbot subscribers, which equates to about 12,000 newsletter subscribers. Easily doubled our sales in 3 months. Highly recommended.
Many dietetics practices are small, but the market is more interesting than that suggests. Telehealth means your market may not end at your suburb, and specialties like gut health or sports nutrition can suit a national approach.
This page sets out what Australian search data shows, and how we would use it across SEO, Google Ads and Meta Ads. We don't have dietitian results to show you yet, so we're showing the research and our closest health results rather than borrowing a track record.
What Australian dietitian search data shows
Four patterns from Semrush's Australian database.
The spelling splits your market
"Dietitian near me" gets 1,900 searches and "dietician near me" 1,600. The head terms split too, at 6,600 and 3,600. Pages and ads need to cover how patients actually spell it.
Nutritionist searches are your searches too
"Nutritionist near me" has 1,600 searches. Medicare, DVA and many health insurers recognise the APD credential, according to Dietitians Australia, which gives you something factual to say.
Specialties are easier to rank for
"Gut health dietitian" has a difficulty of 9, "online dietitian" 15, "sports dietitian" 17 and "eating disorder dietitian" 23. Compare that with 61 for "dietitian".
Practice sites hold real space
In one national snapshot of "dietitian near me", Dietitians Australia's site appeared twice, with practice websites making up most of the rest. No national brand stood out, though your local results will differ.
The challenges dietitians face
Most of them come from working in a noisy field with a small marketing budget.
Loud competition
Nutrition is full of influencers and unqualified advice. You have to be credible and still readable, and you can't make the bold promises they do.
Small capacity
A sole practitioner can be fully booked by a modest number of clients, so a marketing plan has to match what you can actually deliver.
Sensitive topics
Weight and eating disorders need careful language. Meta rejects ads that imply something about a viewer's body, and a clumsy page can do real harm to the person reading it.
Limited Medicare cover
Rebates for up to 5 chronic condition services a year are shared with other professions, and up to 8 group services can apply for type 2 diabetes, so clients may need help understanding what they can claim.
What we can show you today
We don't have dietitian results to show you yet. The closest published result on our site is THEVA Remedial, a new single-room allied health clinic that took 220 appointments from more than 100 customers in its first 90 days, on search. It offers remedial massage, not dietetics, and its buyers behave differently. What transfers is the approach, including targeting by service, reporting on bookings and being careful about health claims.
Which channel suits which kind of practice
Each channel has its own page with the numbers behind it.
SEO for dietitians
Specialty pages, both spellings and credentials that AI answers can cite.
Google Ads for dietitians
Local and telehealth campaigns, kept separate, and judged on booked first appointments.
Meta Ads for dietitians
Useful short content for a small practice, with budgets that respect how Meta's learning works.

Marketing sized to your practice
- A plan built around how many new clients you can actually take on
- Copy that respects the sensitivity of weight and eating topics
- Your APD credential and specialty placed where they do the most work
- Results reported as booked first appointments, not followers
- Google Ads spend paid directly to Google and never marked up

Dietitian marketing, answered
I'm a sole practitioner. Is this overkill?
It can be. A strong Google Business Profile and one good specialty page might be all you need at first, and we will tell you if that's the case. SEO starts from $1,200 a month plus GST, so the numbers have to work for your practice.
Can we say dietitians are better than nutritionists?
You can state facts, such as what the APD credential requires. Sweeping claims or attacks on others are best left out. Dietitians Australia's own wording is a safe place to start.
Do you already work with dietitians?
We don't have dietitian results to show you yet. We have published work and pages across healthcare and orthodontics.
