Marketing for Exercise Physiologists
"Exercise for diabetes" gets about 10 searches a month in Semrush's Australian data. "Exercise physiologist near me" gets 2,400. In this data, people look for the profession by name far more than for exercise for a condition. A GP's advice is one likely reason, so your marketing should serve the GP as well as the patient.

Honestly can't recommend Digital Marketing Tribe enough. They are so easy to work with, they understood the identity I wanted with my brand and executed. Since taking on my SEO, Theva has grown so quickly. In just 3 months, about 2 out of every 3 of my leads now come directly from Google, and I constantly get compliments on how good my website looks from other business owners and customers. They've made the whole thing completely stress-free and the results are snowballing every month. Thank you team!
Bilal has helped me with my business Sydney Music Lessons to rank on Google and ChatGPT. Him and his team have a very deep knowledge of SEO. Thank you for everything.
Exercise physiology sits in an awkward spot. Patients confuse it with physio and personal training, and they can book without a referral, yet Medicare and DVA funding bring GPs into the decision. A plan built only on search would miss part of how clients arrive, and a plan built only on GP visits would miss the people searching for you by name.
We don't have exercise physiology results to show you yet. This page shows the search research we pulled for the profession, and how we would use it across SEO, Google Ads and Meta Ads.
What Australian exercise physiology search data shows
Five patterns from Semrush's Australian database, checked 6 November 2026.
People search the profession, not the condition
"Exercise physiologist" gets 9,900 searches a month. Most of the condition phrases we tested barely register: "exercise for diabetes" and "exercise for cancer patients" sit at about 10 each, and "exercise for arthritis" at 110.
The biggest term is mostly information
In one national snapshot of "exercise physiologist", eight of the ten results weren't clinics. They included healthdirect, Better Health Channel and Allied Health Professions Australia.
"Near me" is where clinics show up
"Exercise physiologist near me" has a difficulty of 19, against 39 for the bare term. In one snapshot, clinic and group sites took eight of ten spots, alongside ESSA's directory and HotDoc.
Someone else may be explaining you
"Exercise physiologist vs physiotherapist" gets 720 searches at a difficulty of 7, and a physiotherapy association factsheet on that difference ranks in the top 10 for "exercise physiologist".
Adjacent services can be larger
"Clinical pilates near me" and "hydrotherapy near me" each get 1,000 searches at difficulties of 10 and 17. They only count if you genuinely run them.
What each channel does for an EP practice
Each channel has its own page with the numbers behind it.
SEO for exercise physiologists
Local rankings, a plain explanation of your scope, and pages your referrers can send people to.
Google Ads for exercise physiologists
Tight local campaigns kept apart from gym and personal training searches.
Meta Ads for exercise physiologists
Group programs with a start date, and familiar local faces, without implying anyone has a condition.
The challenges EP practices face
Most of them come from being understood too narrowly, or confused with someone else.
Confusion with neighbouring professions
In 2023, ESSA publicly called a web page and fact sheet from another profession misleading about your scope. Your site is where you can set this out accurately and without a fight.
Funding has several doors
Clients can book directly, and they may also come through Medicare, DVA, private health or workers' compensation. Each has different rules, and your pages need to say which ones you accept.
Medicare is shared
Eligible patients get rebates for up to 5 individual services a calendar year (10 for eligible Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients) across allied health. Group services for type 2 diabetes sit separately. Patients rarely know this before they call.
The credential matters and few people check
Only ESSA-accredited exercise physiologists can provide services under some Medicare programs, and DVA requires ESSA accreditation too. It's a real distinction from a fitness qualification, and it needs saying plainly.
What we can show you today
We don't have exercise physiology results to show you yet. Our closest published result is THEVA Remedial, a new allied health clinic that took 220 appointments from more than 100 customers in its first 90 days. It's hands-on remedial massage, so its patients arrive differently and it doesn't deal with referrals in the same way. Transform Orthodontic Care, an orthodontic practice whose work with us began during the pandemic, recorded 403 Google Ads conversions at $22.03 each. Neither figure is a forecast for your practice.

A plan that includes your referrers
- We ask how your last 50 clients found you before recommending a channel
- Pages written so a GP can send a patient to them with confidence
- Copy that states your scope and credential accurately, and leaves other professions out of it
- Results reported as booked first appointments, split by funding type where your system allows
- Google Ads spend paid directly to Google and never marked up

Exercise physiology marketing, answered
Should we market to GPs or patients?
Usually both, but not with the same material. Patients need to know what happens and what it costs. GPs need to know who you take, how to refer and what they will hear back. We would start by looking at where your current clients actually came from.
Do we need separate pages for each condition?
Not for search volume alone, as most condition phrases barely register. A few are still worth writing for the GP or patient who has been told to see you, so we would pick the conditions you see most.
Do you already work with exercise physiologists?
We don't have exercise physiology results to show you yet. The closest related work on our site is THEVA Remedial, and we have pages for dietitians and workplace rehab providers, who often share your clients.
